Astera Labs grew revenue 93% and fell 27%, CoreWeave doubled its sales and lost 18%, while Crocs, Ulta and Domino's — promising nothing dramatic — quietly rose; growth stopped paying.

The Tape
The frontier ran the week's fastest growth numbers and got sold the hardest for the privilege. IonQ, the quantum-computing name, grew Q1 revenue 755% to $64.7M and fell 23.7%; Astera Labs, which makes AI-connectivity chips, grew 93% and dropped 27.3%. The money that fled didn't go home — it bought Ulta and Crocs. When triple-digit growth is a sell order and clogs are a haven, the tape isn't pricing companies; it's pricing appetite.
Sector of the week
AI Neoclouds
The AI-cloud landlords fell hardest of any sector. CoreWeave's plan to double capex outweighed a $98.8B order book — spending, not demand, was the worry.

The movers
Psychedelics +6.0% — Eli Lilly's $2.8B buyout of psychedelic developer AtaiBeckley sent atai up 34.7% and dragged the whole sector green; Compass fell 4.6%, Definium 7.3%. One deal, not one dataset, did it.
Hype Goods +3.6% — capital rotated into names with actual profits: Crocs, the clog maker, rose 9.3%, Abercrombie 9.0%, and Ulta grew net income 12% to $340.5M last quarter. This week, boring paid.
Fast Food +1.2% — Domino's climbed 8.1% while reshuffling its board, but Wingstop, the chicken chain that outgrew Starbucks last year, fell 9.6% as domestic same-store sales dropped 8.7%. Growth met its bill.
Entertainment +0.8% — Netflix grew Q2 revenue 13% to $12.56B, pocketed a $2.8B Warner-merger breakup fee, and fell 9.9% anyway; the sector's tiny AMC Networks (+10.7%) did the lifting instead.
AI Neoclouds -19.0% — the group renting out GPU capacity fell hardest of all 32 sectors; CoreWeave dropped 17.5% as plans to double 2026 capital spending overshadowed a $98.8B backlog. The worry was the bill, not the demand.
Quantum -18.4% — IonQ, the trapped-ion computing firm, grew Q1 revenue 755% to $64.7M and fell 23.7%; D-Wave's bookings soared nearly 2,000% and it dropped 22.3%. The numbers were never what these stocks were missing.
Emerging Therapeutics -17.7% — the gene-editors fell together; Intellia dropped 23.9% on a Wolfe downgrade to Sell even with positive Phase 3 data, and Prime Medicine lost 26.2% the week it won its arbitration. Wins didn't count.
Bitcoin Miners -15.9% — the pivot to AI hosting bought them nothing: TeraWulf signed a $19B data-center lease with Anthropic and still fell 24.1%, while Cipher dropped 27.0% mid-buildout. They sold with the frontier, not with bitcoin.
Hydrogen & Fuel Cells -14.4% — fuel-cell maker Bloom Energy won a $1.7B project powering Nebius's AI buildout and still fell 16.5%; FuelCell dropped 18.4% on a $42.6M impairment. A nine-figure contract bought nothing.
Space -14.0% — SpaceX slid 17.3%, below its IPO price for the first time as the rally unwound, while AST SpaceMobile fell 22.2% after pushing its launch to 2027 and eating a $155M-plus satellite write-off. Gravity, belatedly.
Batteries & Solid-State -13.8% — the solid-state hopefuls sold off before QuantumScape's July 22 report; QuantumScape, still with no revenue at all, fell 16.5%, and SES AI dropped 22.5% as gross profit shrank to $1.2M. Anticipation, priced out.
Rare Earths & Critical Minerals -12.8% — MP Materials, backed by a Defense Department floor of $110/kg that added $42.3M last quarter, fell 12.8%; Critical Metals, carrying a disclosed going-concern doubt, dropped 22.9%. A government backstop beats a wish.
Nuclear Energy -11.4% — the reactor rally reversed; NuScale hit an eight-year low on Q1 revenue of just $565,000 and delays, while ASP Isotopes fell 28.0% swapping $109.2M of notes into fresh shares. That's deleveraging by dilution.
AI Power -11.3% — Astera Labs, which makes AI-connectivity chips, grew revenue 93% to $308.4M and still fell 27.3%; Credo tripled sales to $1.3B and dropped 26.9%. Doubling the business only doubled the exit.
eVTOL & Flying Cars -10.5% — the air-taxi names, all barely past zero revenue, fell together; Joby's $2.47B cash pile made it the least-bad at -10.8%, Vertical Aerospace lost 15.2%. Cash is a cushion, not a customer.
Robotics -9.8% — the lone profit-maker held up: warehouse-automation firm Symbotic, now operating-profitable on 23% revenue growth, fell just 3.5%, while pre-profit lidar maker Ouster was cut 25.6%. Earnings, not enthusiasm, was the only parachute.
The Stories
When 755% growth is a sell order
IonQ, one of the handful of public quantum-computing companies, reported Q1 revenue up 755% to $64.7M. Its reward was a 23.7% drop on the week.
It was not alone. D-Wave Quantum saw bookings soar nearly 2,000% and fell 22.3%; the whole quantum group lost 18.4%, the second-worst of 32 sectors.
Move up the AI-infrastructure stack and the pattern repeats. Astera Labs, which makes connectivity chips for data centers, grew revenue 93% to $308.4M and fell 27.3%. Credo Technology tripled sales to $1.3B and dropped 26.9%.
In fairness, none of this is a demand problem. CoreWeave, the GPU-rental firm that led the AI Neoclouds down 17.5%, is sitting on a $98.8B order book. What spooked its holders was a plan to double 2026 capital spending — the cost of serving that backlog, not any shortage of it.
When triple-digit growth reliably precedes a double-digit fall, the number was never the missing ingredient. The buyers were.
The only green came with a price tag
The week's gains mostly wore an acquirer's signature.
PayPal surged 23.7% on a report that Stripe and Advent had offered more than $53B to buy it — a jump no quarterly result had managed, given the company's own net income actually fell to $1.11B.
In psychedelics, the entire sector's 6.0% gain traced to one line: Eli Lilly agreeing to pay $2.8B upfront for AtaiBeckley, sending atai Life Sciences up 34.7% while its peers fell.
Etsy rose 7.6% not on its marketplace but on selling resale app Depop to eBay for $1.2B in cash. Even Bally's, the casino operator, popped 21.1% on a quarter that lost $161.9M and carried $109.9M of interest expense.
The message across sectors was consistent: this week, the surest way to move a stock up was to have someone offer to take it off your hands.
Netflix beat everything except the tape
Netflix did what a market is supposed to reward. Q2 revenue rose 13% to $12.56B, net income climbed to $3.40B, and the company pocketed a $2.8B termination fee after Warner Bros. Discovery walked away from their merger in February.
It then fell 9.9%, leading the entertainment sector's losers.
The gains, such as they were, came from the minnows. AMC Networks, nursing an $18.9M quarterly loss, rose 10.7% on renewed buzz around The Walking Dead and Mayfair Witches.
A beat and a $2.8B cheque bought Netflix a place at the bottom of its own group. Sometimes the result and the reaction point in opposite directions.
The gene-editors won their arguments and lost anyway
Intellia Therapeutics reported positive topline Phase 3 data for its hereditary-angioedema drug, with a commercial launch planned for 2027. Wolfe Research responded by downgrading it to Sell, and the stock fell 23.9%.
Prime Medicine won its arbitration against Beam Therapeutics and fell 26.2% the same week, still carrying a disclosed going-concern doubt.
The whole Emerging Therapeutics group dropped 17.7%. Over in genomics, Tempus AI grew revenue 36% to $348.1M and fell 14.0%, while Ginkgo Bioworks slid 18.9% on an insider's plan to sell stock.
For clinical-stage biotech, a good week of headlines and a bad week of prices are no longer contradictory. When the tide goes out on speculative names, the data on the page doesn't get a vote.
