A generation raised on Roblox spent 124 billion hours there in 2025. If they never start buying the $70 game, $9.4 billion in yearly sales the industry counts on may simply never arrive.
A whole generation is growing up inside Roblox. In 2025 they spent 124 billion hours there — 10.25 billion every month, more than Steam, PlayStation, and Fortnite combined — and 36.1 million daily players are under 13. To them a game is a social space you build in, not a $70 story you finish. Our model puts $9.4 billion of yearly sales at risk (range $6.7 billion to $12.8 billion, roughly 10.5% of the $88.9 billion paid-game market), and rates the chance it is permanent at 49%.
The market still assumes these kids will grow up and start paying, as every past generation did. That bet may be wrong, because the gap in hours played is widening every year, not closing.
Take-Two Interactive and Electronic Arts depend most on selling $70 titles to new buyers. Sony and Microsoft built console businesses on the same assumption. Ubisoft, smaller and reliant on big paid releases, has the least room to absorb a generation that never converts.
Why this matters. A whole generation now treats games as social building spaces, not the big paid titles consoles and PCs sell. If these kids never start paying $70 for major games, the growth the industry has already priced in simply never shows up. Game publishers, console makers, and anyone lending against future game sales should care, because the buyers they are counting on may never arrive.

The track record50%
Childhood media habits sometimes stick for life and sometimes fade as kids grow up — history points both ways.
How it works60%
To these kids a game means a social building space, not a 30-hour story — the two barely overlap.
The skeptic's case38%
Every past generation grew up and spent; money arrives at 18 to 25, and Fortnite players already buy $70 games.
What the market shows40%
Game consoles still sit in 53% of these households — the same kids own PlayStations, so the switch may be slow, not absent.
The widening gap58%
The Roblox hours gap grows every year, not shrinks — 10 billion monthly hours is a habit, not a passing phase.

Our middle estimate puts $9.4 billion of yearly sales at risk (range $6.7 billion to $12.8 billion, about 10.5% of the $88.9 billion paid-game market) — the growth that never appears if the Roblox-raised generation, which logged 124 billion hours there in 2025 at 2.4 to 2.8 hours a day each, never starts buying the $70 game the industry treats as inevitable. We rate the chance this is a permanent shift at 49%.
